Shoulder Arthroscopy (Shoulder Scope)

Shoulder arthroscopy is used to analyze the shoulder joint and makes it possible to diagnose conditions and make repairs. It is commonly recommended when a patient’s pain does not respond to medication or therapy. Pain in the shoulder can be a result of an injury, over use or simply due to an aging joint. With this procedure, the surgeon injects fluid into the joint to make it easier to see. An arthroscope is inserted through a small incision and the arthroscope transmits images of the joint to a video screen. When the problem is identified, the surgeon makes addition small incisions for other instruments that are used to repair the problem as needed. It may take several weeks to fully recover from this procedure.
